Introduction to SUN TUNNEL Skylights

Before and after of a Sun Tunnel installation in a livingroom

For a low cost, natural lighting option SUN TUNNELS win hands down. Known also as a sun tube, tubular skylight, solatube or solar tube a SUN TUNNEL is an easy way to brighten up an area or room without the time commitment and cost of a skylight installation.

Before and after picture of SUNTUNNEL installations

A SUN TUNNEL is a 10″ or 14″ polished tube that reflects light and lets natural light in to any room and the ease of installation is the best part.

Simplified Version: 1. Cut hole in roof and install watertight flashing 2. Cut hole in ceiling (best if these two holes are in the same area – the straighter the tunnel the better the light output!) 3. Add tunnel and ceiling diffuser and BAM you have natural light!

There is a little bit more to it than that, but the basic idea is that it’s pretty simple. For the specifics check out VELUX’s video on installation.

The things to take away from this is:
They are easy to install, the whole process can be done in about 2 hours.
You can easily save $1000 compared to a new skylight installation.
And the obvious part is that they’re a great energy saver as they can bring in enough light that you don’t need to turn the lights on during the day. One 14″ Sun Tunnel is the equivalent of three 100 watt bulbs!

Really there’s no reason not to have a SUN TUNNEL. In fact, why not get one for every room?

P.S. Did you know adding natural light in your home or business can help boost your mood and health?
